Life and Death’s new Expanding Matter project is an event and mix series concept that seeks out creatives who push sensory boundaries with different sounds and experiences.
Today, the Expanding Matter mix series continues with Demi Riquísimo, the Detroit-born, London-based producer known for his standout hybrid of acid, italo house, and disco-inspired sounds. The artist will also be releasing an EP on Life and Death this summer.
The Semi-Delicious label-boss (and internationally renowned DJ/producer who has been supported by the likes of Pete Tong, Octo Octa, The Blessed Madonna, and more) recorded this kaleidoscopic mix during his opening performance for DJ Tennis’ Phonox Residency show on Dec 9, 2022. We sat down with Riquísimo to chat with him about that night, his DJ ethos, and plans for 2023.
What was a highlight for you during your set at DJ Tennis’ Phonox Residency?
I absolutely loved warming up the dance floor for Tennis, but of course our B2B at the end was really special too. I had a few friends turn up just before the B2B which meant a lot. But to be honest I’ve been wanting to play at Phonox for years, so just to grace the decks was a privilege.
What do you aim to convey through your sets?
My main aim is to connect with the dance floor as soon as possible. There’s a point in a set where things click and I can play anything and it works. The sooner I get to that point the better. But musically it’s just a balance of new music I’ve been working on and new & old music from other artists.
One message you would like to let your fans know for 2023?
Firstly, thanks for the support so far, and secondly, I have a lot of new music this year. On some new labels too!
