For the past decade, celebrated electronic music label Life and Death has become known for championing the best of underground dance music. Now, the label is translating their curatorial expertise into new artistic ventures with the event and mix series concept, Expanding Matter.
Designed to be part of the growing Life and Death Universe, Expanding Matter will seek out creatives who push bush sensory boundaries with different sounds and experiences.
Threaded by galactic and psychedelic themes, this community of ‘cosmic punks’ will defy genre categorization and differentiate Life and Death from other dance labels, helping the imprint explore new live experiential concepts and musical forms.
Life and Death has long been defined by genre deconstruction, making it the perfect ecosystem for subversive artists to find themselves a home.

In 2023, Expanding Matter is gearing up to announce an assortment of music releases, mixes, clothes, art, events, and more.
The debut Expanding Matter event took place Wednesday, January 11 in Tulum, Mexico at Papaya Playa Project.

The event’s lineup included a bevy of genre-blending artists such as a Turkish-born DJ Carlita x Life and Death label head DJ Tennis (for a special Astral Club set), Detroit-based techno tastemaker DJ Minx, international multi-instrumentalist Jimi Jules, Swiss DJ Kalabrese, house and techno DJ Moodymann, and Papaya Playa Project resident DJ, Rosano.

More exciting news on the Expanding Matter mix series later this month.
